About the play

The saga of two Yorkshire families in the remote Pennine Hills, and the doomed relationship of Heathcliff and Cathy Earnshaw is brought to life in Jane Thornton’s stage adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel.

“Of all the adaptations of Wuthering Heights that I’ve seen – film or theatre – this was the best – wonderful!” – Dr Juliet Barker, World expert on the Brontës.

The John Godber production of Wuthering Heights in 2017 was a designed to give five young northern drama school graduates their first professional jobs and a leg up into the industry. The young actors came from ALRA North and LIPA.

We are delighted that a number of these actors went on to work with us on other John Godber productions and are now carving out successful careers in the industry:

Sorcha Mccaffrey who played Mrs Dean and Isabella  went on to successfully write and perform her own one woman show Ladybones to five star reviews at the Edinburgh fringe and has just had her new play Krill shortlisted for the Verity Bargate Award and long listed for the Women’s prize for playwriting.

Lamin Touray who played Heathcliff went on to work with the John Godber company a number of times playing Ralph in the national tour of Bouncers, Steve in Up n Under and  various roles in This is not Right. He’s also worked for BBC radio and Northern Broadsides.

We hope to do more graduate productions in the future.
