About the play

The Kings of Hull tells the remarkable story of the King family across three generations.

From life on the docks, to Hull Prison, a lottery win and success in the coal trade, this is a family whose sons and daughters are struggling to cope in a changing world.

The Kings are a family bonded by love but divided by rugby, a river and sibling rivalry. Join us at their Golden Wedding, before the gloves come off, for a celebration of life in town, from the 1960s through to Brexit and beyond. Whether it’s love, hate, success or failure, the Kings always come out fighting.

An expansive and hilariously irreverent new comedy, written and directed by John Godber. Featuring the music of Ruby and the Vinyl. Produced by The John Godber Company and Theatre Royal Wakefield for Hull City of Culture 2017.
