Ocho

In September 2016, Jane Thornton joined forces with Archbishop Sentamu Academy’s Spotlight Scholarship Programme to write a play about one of Hull’s most hidden pieces of history. Ocho (which is Spanish for eight) discovers the true story of the eight brave men from Hull who voluntarily fought in the Spanish Civil War.

Teechers The Musical

After the success of Ocho in 2017, we brought the cast back together in Teechers for their final Archbishop Sentamu school production in the summer of 2018. Directed and adapted by Jane for a larger cast, we added some songs with music composed by Liam Foster. We also brought in some new performers and gave those pupils going to study Community Drama a chance to take on Stage Management and Assistant Director duties.

DiscovER Stories

In 2017 John Godber worked with a trio of young aspiring playwrights from East Yorkshire on “Discover East Riding Stories”, a short play that toured libraries and community venues as a part of the LitUp Festival. John mentored The Writing Squad members Georgia Affonso, Ruby Lawrence and Lydia Marchant in writing their own stories, as well as contributing a story himself. The cast was made up of local actresses Annie Kirkman, Kate Huntsman and Laura Aramayo.
