About the play

In 1962 England, Vic Brown woos Ingrid Rothwell, a typist from the factory where he works. The pair begin a relationship but Vic soon realises that to him, Ingrid is just a conquest. Ingrid discovers she is pregnant with Vic’s baby and he reluctantly proposes. They are forced into a marriage that neither is ready for and Vic doesn’t even want. Then tragedy strikes and Ingrid loses the baby.

The late Stan Barstow was born in 1928 in Horbury and attended Ossett Grammar School. A Kind Of Loving was his most successful novel, providing a springboard for the rest of his writing career. This new adaptation for the stage by John Godber retains all the authenticity of the story and remains true to the original novel.

‘John Godber’s direction is beautifully detailed, with narration and action intertwined to great effect’ Whatsonstage.com.
